At a recent council meeting called to discuss parking, Clapham Town's Tory Councillor, Bernard Gentry voted to retain the financial incentives in the parking contract. He did this despite chairing an all-party commission on parking which recommended removing the financial incentives! Councillor Gentry is very fond of telling Clapham Town residents that he is "backing" fairer parking, but when he gets into the Town Hall he supports the unfair financial incentives.
Since signing the contract with Control Plus in August 2003 the council has been inundated with complaints about over-zealous ticketing. The financial incentives mean that wardens are under pressure to hand out at least twelve tickets for every eight hour shift.
If you have been a victim of over-zealous ticketing, and want to get your own back on Councillor Bernard Gentry, click your mouse on his head now!
Following the huge success of 'Slap a ticket on a Tory' we have added 'Slap a ticket on a Lib Dem'. He doesn’t own a car, he doesn’t even live in Lambeth – so it must be the man the Lib Dems put in charge of parking - Councillor Andrew Sawden. Alternatively you could see Bernard in his new role as a traffic warden!
