Labour’s manifesto commitments on parking
In our election manifesto for the 2006 council elections, Labour promised a return to fair parking. Here’s what we pledged:
Fair parking
A service for residents, not a tax on residents
The Liberal Democrats and Conservatives have turned Lambeth’s parking service into a money-making scam. They signed a deal that forces traffic wardens to hand out twelve tickets for every shift they work – regardless of the number of illegally parked cars they find. To make sure they hit these targets, the Lib Dems and Tories encourage them with massive profit bonuses. This has led to a record increase in unfair ticketing.
Labour will bring back fair parking. We will scrap the unfair profit incentives and help unfairly ticketed drivers by including information on how to appeal with every parking ticket. Where local people want resident-only parking, we will give them more choice over what hours of the day the day they want parking restrictions to operate.
Labour’s commitments for fair parking
• Scrap the unfair Lib Dem and Tory profit incentives that lead to overzealous
ticketing.
• Stop the secrete Lib Dem plan to double parking charges.
• Make visitor parking permits easier to buy.
• Introduce resident-only paring faster, but only when residents ask for
it.
• More choice for residents over what hours parking restrictions apply.
So how’s Labour doing?
We’ve made a good start on delivering our commitment to fair parking,
with the key commitment to scrap parking profit incentives delivered just weeks
after the election. Click here to find out how much Labour’s done already.
