Lambeth Parking: Introduction

Lambeth was ruled by a right-wing coalition of Tories and Liberals until voters threw them out in the May 2006 council elections. Their time in power saw a number of major setbacks for the Borough, but among the most high profile disasters was their profiteering approach to parking enforcement. The Tories and Liberals decided to milk motorists dry by offering financial inducements that forced wardens to hand out thousands of unfair parking tickets – creating costly parking misery for residents right across Lambeth.

With parking a key issue in the elections, voters backed Labour’s proposals to scrap Lib Dem and Tory financial incentives and bring back fair parking. Labour delivered on its election pledge just weeks after the election. Read here what Labour’s doing to make parking enforcement fairer, and find out more here about the mess the Lib Dems and Tories left behind.
