Free parking for Lambeth Liberal Democrate
and Conservative Councillors

![]() Cash for parking tickets backed by Tories and Liberal Democrats in Lambeth |
Lambeth’s Liberal Democrat and Conservative Councillors have granted themselves free parking permits to park on Lambeth’s housing estates, while residents suffer unfair parking fines under a draconian parking regime. Photographic evidence of the permits has been obtained by Labour Councillors.
The permits which read simply “Cllr” or “All Estates”, allow them to park in any council housing estate in the borough. This is despite the fact that some tenants groups have voted not to allow councillors free parking on their estates.
News of the free permits will anger those campaigning for fairer parking enforcement in Lambeth. The borough has been beset with problems with over-zealous ticketing under the Liberal Democrat - Conservative regime which runs Lambeth.
The current holders of the permits are Councillors Bernard Gentry, Clare Whelan, Anthony Bottrall, Clive Bennett, Keith Fitchett, Irene Kimm, Jeremy Clyne and John Whelan.
No Labour Councillors hold one of these permits. Councillor Bernard Gentry’s decision to claim the permit is particularly controversial. Gentry recently came under fire for hypocrisy when he voted against implementing the recommendations of his own Parking Commission.
Councillor Pete Bowyer, Labour’s Spokesperson on Parking, said
“The Lib Dems and Tories appear to be happy for everyone else to suffer under their unfair parking regime, whilst they look after themselves with free permits.”
“Parking enforcement in Lambeth has descended
into chaos because of the ridiculous contract signed by the Lib Dems and
Tories. These revelations are yet another slap in the face for car drivers
in the borough.”
