The local press have revealed that Lambeth’s Liberal Democrat-Tory bosses have “retired” Lambeth’s Chief Executive after three years and handed her a whopping £700, 000 pay-off. The controversial decision to remove Faith Boardman is a stark admission by the ruling parties that they have failed to improve services since May 2002.

Lib Dem councillors tried to hush up the details by agreeing the huge pay-off in a private meeting called at only a few hours notice. But the truth became public when a town hall mole apparently posted secret papers to the South London Press which then published the story.

Revelations that Lambeth will spend hundreds of thousands of pounds on removing Faith Boardman will increase pressure on Lib Dem and Tory councillors who are gaining a nationwide reputation for tax increases and waste. The Council’s most recent Government review showed Lambeth stagnating as the second worst council in London despite a record 35% tax hike imposed by the Tories and Lib Dems.

Councillor Steve Reed, Leader of Lambeth’s Labour opposition, said

“Members of the Liberal Democrat and Conservative administration are wasting hundreds of thousands of pounds on a political sacking. They have forced out Faith Boardman because, despite their crippling tax hikes, they have failed to improve the council and they are desperate for someone else to blame.”

"They think they can play the public for fools. But it's not because of one senior manager that council services are falling apart. It's because Lib Dem and Tory policies don't work.

“The Lib Dems and their Tory allies have become so arrogant they are prepared to waste staggering amounts of public money to pay off their chief executive in a sordid attempt to cover up their own failure ahead of May's elections."
