Incompetent Council floods homes

Lambeth Council has left homes at risk of flooding whenever it rains. Bungling Council contractors relaid the road surfaces in the Holmewood Gardens area of Brixton Hill – but filled in the gutters that take rain water to the drains. As a result, rain water now washes straight past the drains and into residents’ homes, flooding their gardens and cellars. The road works are part of a scheme to install a home zone which has already taken four years and remains beset by problems. Residents have warned the Council that they may take legal action over the flooding.

Local Labour councillor Steve Reed is demanding action from the Council and said: “Residents pointed out thirty serious problems on a walkabout recently – the flooding is just one of them. The Council needs to sort out its ability to run projects like this. Residents were delighted when this scheme was first put forward, but Lambeth’s incompetence has turned it into a long-running nightmare.”
