Public Say No to Nature Garden Sell-Off

Lib Dems have withdrawn from sale a nature garden following pressure from the public.

Local Lambeth residents have saved a nature garden from being concreted over and covered with houses. The public were outraged after plans of the sale emerged without any consultation with local tenants, residents, parents or governors of local jubilee school.

A petition of over 250 residents and concerted pressure from the public and local Labour councillors, the Lib Dems have not only withdrawn the sale of the Tulse Hill nature garden and playground but been forced to invest a long overdue £85,000 for new estate environment improvements including an upgrade of the nature garden area.

Labour councillor Toren Smith said:

“This is a great victory for local residents who had the courage to take on the Council at the Town Hall. I am delighted this cockamamie idea has been withdrawn. This just goes to show that Lambeth’s green spaces are not for sale.”
