Lambeth Council dump waste problem in Herne
Hill

Residents are up
in arms about the Liberal Democrat / Convervative Council’s proposals
to turn their streets into a rubbish dump.
The Council is proposing to move a waste depot for all 50 Cleanaway trucks
base to the Matahma Gandhi Estate in Milkwood road against the wishes
of many local residents.
Local residents are furious that 50 trucks will be rattling around the
streets where their children play. Furthermore the claim that no final
decision has been made is not backed up by the eviction notices already
served to local Lambeth businesses, some of whom will go out of business
due to this latest anti-local shop move by the Liberal Democrat / Conservative
Council.
Local MP Tessa Jowell and Labour councillors have taken up the concerns
of the residents with the Council, conducting a consultation of their
own.
Peter O’Connell, the Labour Councillor who obtained the payment figure said:
“This is the typical bulldozer approach of the Lib Dem-Tory Council. For them to just dump this in the backyard of residents without asking them is totally unacceptable.
What’s worse is that none of those who took the decision live here. This administration has gained a nationwide reputation for waste, incompetence and ignoring the wishes of residents. Liberal and Tory Councillors should be aware that residents of Herne Hill will not forget their cavalier attitude towards the areas where they live.”
