Ferndale Councillors welcome improvements by Stockwell primary
Ferndale ward’s three Labour councillors – one of whom is on the board of governors - have congratulated Stockwell Primary school on its excellent rating in the national league table on school performance. The announcement, highlighted by a visit to the school by Schools Minister Stephen Twigg MP on Wednesday 1st December, shows that Stockwell primary has come 10th highest out of the whole country in terms of overall improvement over the last year. And this is the fourth year in a row that Stockwell has shown sustained, year-on-year, improvement. The assessment formula - ‘value added measures’, - allows for fairer comparisons between schools with different pupil intakes. Commenting, Cllr Sally Prentice, Labour’s Education spokesperson and also one of the three Ferndale ward councillors, said: “I’m delighted that Stockwell
primary has improved so much. The commitment from the staff is first-class
and they are as dedicated a team as it is possible to be. The combination
of this hard work and the massive increase in Education spending from
the Labour Government – which even our opponents acknowledge to
be the case – has paid off dividends. “
