Tessa Jowell and local parents in meeting with schools Minister
In a meeting, organised by Tessa Jowell, local parents from the Elmcourt School Campaign were able to put their case for a new secondary school to the Schools Minister, Stephen Twigg. In very positive discussions, Stephen Twigg agreed with Tessa and local parents that there was an urgent need for a new secondary school in the Norwood area. He agreed, subject to confirmation by officials, that the building of the new Norwood school would be prioritised within Lambeth's Building Schools for the Future (BSF) plans with a view to opening in September 2007. Tessa Jowell said, 'Part of the reason for prioritising this school is the excellent work undertaken by the parent promoters group. The Minister felt that their commitment will be an important factor in enabling the new school to open in 2007. 'I firmly believe that it will be possible to
deliver this much-needed school in time for entry in September 2007. I
will continue to do all I can to achieve this goal.
