Lambeth: flying the flag for England
Lambeth’s Labour Council will proudly fly the England flag above the Town Hall for as long as the national team remain in the World Cup. The council has decided it is time to show its support for our world cup heroes when there are so many cars, homes and businesses flying the flag for Sven and his boys. The England Football Team has become a powerful symbol of a multi-cultural and multi-racial Britain Lambeth’s streets and estates are covered with St George’s Flags, being flown by people from all communities and all backgrounds. Chief Executive Derrick Anderson said: “We are proud to join residents and show our support for England in the World Cup.” Lambeth Council Deputy Leader, Councillor Jackie Meldrum added: “So many people in Lambeth are proud of the England Football team and are showing their support with flags and banners.” “Years ago the St Georges flag was associated with racist thugs, but now it is strongly associated with a multi-ethnic football team who are representing this country abroad.” “That’s why we have decided
to join in with backing Sven and his boys. I doubt it will help them win
the World Cup but we’ve all got to do our bit!
