In efforts to gain access to the concerns of young people in Lambeth, Labour
Councillors are getting set to have an election for the council’s first
ever Youth Mayor and U.K. Youth Parliament Representative.
The new Youth Mayor will be the official voice for young people in Lambeth and
will have responsibilities which will include a budget of £25,000 to spend
on projects that he or she feels are important to young people in Lambeth.
The Youth Mayor will have access to senior council officers enabling them to
advise on the concerns of young people. Labour Councillor Florence Nosegbe,
a key supporter of this project, said, "The council is committed to giving
a real voice to the young people of Lambeth and to letting them know that we
are on their side. The Youth Mayor project will give young people the opportunity
to make a real difference to the community in which they live and to see for
themselves the positive difference their involvement will make."
