Labour-run Lambeth has introduced a new campaign to maximise the income of
thousands of the borough's most vulnerable residents. The Every Pound Counts
campaign is aimed at older people, adults with disabilities and carers and aims
to ensure these vulnerable people are getting all the benefits they are entitled
to.
Working in partnership with local advice agencies, the council has created a
dedicated welfare rights team, with staff who visit people in their homes, advise
them on their benefit rights and help them fill in the forms to claim what they
are entitled to.
Labour Cllr Donatus Anyanwu, Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Services at
Lambeth Council, said: "We know that many residents don't claim the full
benefits they are eligible for. Tragically it is often the most vulnerable and
most at need people who are losing out. Every Pound Counts is about ensuring
those people get the support they need." The three year campaign, which
launched earlier this year, aims to help 3,600 residents access benefits they
would otherwise miss out on.
