Under Labour’s leadership Lambeth is celebrating being named one of London's
brightest and well kept boroughs, having been awarded a prestigious Silver Award
in this year's London in Bloom competition.
London in Bloom is a campaign to create a lasting improvement to London's environment,
organised by the Royal Horticultural Society. Open to all London boroughs, the
awards promote the display of flowers as well as shrubs, trees and landscapes
in places that can be seen and appreciated by the public, as well as clean streets
and parks. And in a further triumph for Lambeth, Brockwell Park Community Greenhouses
came second in the Community Garden category.
Labour Cllr Lib Peck, Cabinet member for environment and culture on Lambeth
Council, said:
"This is wonderful news for Lambeth, and I’m delighted that the hard
work that staff, residents, businesses and community groups put in all year
round to create a more attractive borough has been recognised.
"The council is determined to create a better environment for all those
who live and work here, and it is fantastic to get this recognition."
