Labour-run Lambeth has invested significantly in the Brixton Recreation Centre
in order to make it the flagship centre that Lambeth residents deserve.
The centre is now fully open and Labour Councillors are excited about the results
and would like to invite residents to see the facilities for themselves.
This weekend (Saturday 20 October and Sunday 21 October 2007, 8am-8pm), we are
offering a free weekend of activities at the first and largest dedicated area
for under 16 year olds.
During this weekend, children across Lambeth have the opportunity to try for
free the brand new sport and fitness facility 'The Zone', the new specialist
area for kids aged 5-15 – so please pop in over the weekend and bring
your children!
Improving sports facilities is one of Labour-run Lambeth’s top priorities.
The new 'The Zone' is part of a wider £2.7 million investment in Brixton
Recreation Centre this year, with £300,000 also being spent updating facilities
at the borough's other leisure centres.
With the capacity to provide activities for up to 200 young people at any one
time, The Zone comprises three areas: the Energy Zone, Fitness Zone and Team
Zone, and offers everything from a youth fitness centre and interactive sport
and team games, to WIFI dance mats and a 3G football pitch.
Designed to encourage Lambeth’s 51,064 under 16s to embrace a healthy
and active lifestyle, The Zone is the result of three years research and development
and offers young people a broad range of leisure activities within a safe and
supervised environment.
'The Zone' will play a key role within the Lambeth community – keeping
young people off the streets and providing a positive alternative to watching
TV or playing video games.
