Transport Commissioner makes Labour Lambeth his first stop

Labour leader of Lambeth Council Councillor Steve Reed meets transport commissioner for London Peter Hendy
Labour leader of Lambeth Council Councillor Steve Reed meets transport commissioner for London Peter Hendy

Labour run Lambeth became the first borough to be visited by Peter Hendy in his new role as transport commissioner for London.

During his visit, he met with the Labour Leader of the council Steve Reed to discuss a range of transport issues affecting the borough, including Brixton Central Square, the possible extension of the Croydon tram into Streatham, the redevelopment of Herne Hill junction and a possible night bus along Streatham Vale.

After the meeting Cllr Reed joined Mr Hendy in Brixton meeting with residents to hear their views about transport in the borough.

During the previous four years under Liberal and Tory rule Lambeth missed out on millions of pounds worth of investment because they did not want to work with Ken Livingstone. Now that Labour is in power, the council will work with the Mayor for the benefit of residents.

Cllr Reed said:

“It is great that Peter has taken the time to come to Lambeth to discuss some of the issues around transport in this part of London. It shows how important this borough is to London’s future that Lambeth is the first borough he has visited in his new role.

“These visits shows the Labour Councillors commitment to working closely with the London Mayor and Transport for London for the benefit of residents. By working closely together we can make real improvements to the day-to-day quality of life of the people who live here.”

“This is in stark contrast to approach of the Lib Dems and Tories who damaged the regeneration of Lambeth because they didn’t like working with a Labour Mayor.”
