The people’s plan
On July 31st Labour Councillors will launch their timetable for delivering their manifesto commitments over the next four years. After just twelve weeks in charge Labour have managed to pull together all their plans to improve Lambeth into a complete timetable. The previous Lib Dem and Tory regime took over twelve months to agree their first ‘Recovery Plan’ and even then it mapped out a programme for only one year! The Corporate Plan is due to be formally approved at the next Lambeth Council Cabinet meeting. The plan, titled “Delivering Quality, Tackling Inequality”, gives a detailed breakdown of Labour’s key commitments from the election and explains when they are going to be delivered, how, and by whom. Labour councillors are 100% committed to carrying out their pledges to improve Lambeth Council. The plan includes action to improve housing, schools, community safety and putting the council’s finances in order. Labour have already started the process of bringing £200 million of Government investment in to Lambeth Housing, while guaranteeing that it remains 100% in public ownership. Other highlights include the delivery of a brand new school in the centre of Brixton on Shakespeare Road, the renegotiation of the Lib Dem / Tory parking contract and a return to fair parking enforcement, major regeneration projects and an expansion of youth provision, and tough measures to tackle gun crime, knife crime, and domestic violence. Councillor Steve Reed, Labour Leader of Lambeth Council said: “In a dramatic break with the years of broken promises under the Lib Dems, Labour is showing residents how we will deliver every promise we made during the election campaign.” “This is nothing less than a plan to transform
Lambeth Council and make Lambeth the best place in London to live, work
and play. After four years of Lib Dem and Tory dither, it’s exciting
to see Lambeth given the strong leadership it needs to start serving every
resident better.”
