Lambeth encourages local businesses to 'set-up shop' locally

In a bid to encourage businesses to 'set up shop' in Lambeth, the Council has moved up a gear to ensure that the best support and training opportunities are available for local entrepreneurs and residents. The Economic Development Strategy has been given the green light by Labour Councillors. It details the way in which the borough will provide the right conditions to encourage businesses to set up and trade locally.

The new strategy will focus on three main aims:

• Increasing investment in Lambeth

• Tackling worklessness through partnership working with training and employment partners
• Supporting enterprise within the borough

Labour Councillor Paul McGlone, cabinet member for regeneration and enterprise said: "A thriving and diverse business community is the sign of a healthy and prosperous neighbourhood, and that is the kind of environment we are aiming to create for local people and visitors to Lambeth. To achieve this ambition requires a real push to ensure the borough's residents are accessing training and learning opportunities, either through college courses or training on the job. We are keen to encourage local people to get the best jobs in Lambeth, London and even internationally."
