Gordon Brown has paid a visit to Lambeth to listen
to the concerns of ordinary people. The Chancellor of the Exchequer took part
in a 'Let's Talk' event at the town hall in Brixton. "Let's Talk"
is a Labour Party initiative that brings senior politicians out to hear the
views of ordinary people.
Over 200 Lambeth residents heard Gordon Brown talk about his vision for a stronger,
fairer Britain before he took part in small-group discussions around the room.
Issues raised by participants included improving school standards and getting
more young people into work. The Chancellor was accompanied by Lambeth’s
Labour Council Leader, Steve Reed, and the Borough’s GLA Member Val Shawcross.
The Chancellor praised Lambeth’s newly elected Labour council for its
work to improve the Borough.
Brixton resident Steve Yandell met the Chancellor at the event. He said: “People
were thrilled to see Gordon Brown sitting down and joining in conversations
with ordinary Lambeth residents. He listened, and he’s promised to write
back to everyone who took part. It’s not often you see senior politicians
listening like that. I was very impressed.
