Leaked documents from Lambeth Council have dealt a further crippling blow to the financial reputation of Lambeth’s Tories and Lib Dems. The documents show the Council’s housing account – made up of the rent paid by thousands of tenants and leaseholders – was left millions of pounds in the red. It is only now, ten months after they were voted out, that the true extent of Lib Dem and Tory incompetence has been exposed. The missing millions, including £3 million lost in a single fraud case, led to rent increases for Lambeth’s tenants and leaseholders as well as a meltdown in services. An official report into the mess the Lib Dems left behind accuses them of bringing finances to “a historic low and well bellow prudent levels of reserve balances”

John Kazantzis, Labour’s cabinet member for housing said “The Lib Dems and Tories played fast and loose with residents’ money. People are still angry at how their money was simply thrown down the drain.”
