Labour’s domestic violence action plan
An action plan to tackle tackle domestic violence in Lambeth has been introduced by Labour Councillors. This will include extra support for those experiencing domestic violence. The violence strategy action plan target the areas of the borough which have the highest levels of domestic violence. This includes measures to address its causes, to provide better services for victims of violence, and to raise awareness in the community that domestic violence is unacceptable. The strategy has been agreed by organisations such as Lambeth Council, the NHS and the police and by Lambeth’s domestic violence forum, which is made up of voluntary organisations in the borough. Councillor Mark Bennett, Labour’s Cabinet Member for Community Safety, said: “The newly elected Labour council is committed to tackling inequality, and a big part of this is making Lambeth a place where everybody can live their life free from the threat of violence. “This is why it is so important that we have a strategy for dealing with domestic violence, and that we send out the message that it is something that should be condemned in the strongest possible terms. “This is not something we can do on our
own, and this is why I am delighted that so many organisations have signed
up to this strategy, from the police and the NHS through to the voluntary
sector. It is only by working closely together that we can make a real
difference to the people who experience domestic violence.”
