![]() Councillor Mark Bannett says Labour is committed to tackling inequality |
A new centre offering support to women who have experienced or are experiencing domestic violence in Lambeth has opened.
The Lambeth Gaia Centre combines different services that support women affected by domestic violence. It is a confidential service that is run in partnership with a number of Lambeth based statutory, voluntary and private sector organisations.
Lambeth has one of the highest incidence of domestic violence in London.
Labour’s Mark Bennett, Cabinet Member for Community Safety said: “Labour
is committed to tackling inequality in Lambeth and we want to make sure that
the message is clear to everyone that domestic violence is unacceptable.
“Through Lambeth’s domestic violence strategy, we want to reduce
the incidence of domestic violence in the borough and increase the safety of
those experiencing domestic violence. The Gaia Centre will play a key role in
helping us achieve this.”
“It is only by working closely together that we can make a real difference
to the people who experience domestic violence”, he commented.
The location of the centre is not being made public to protect the users.
