Ethelred Estate to get £16.6m refit

Labour-run Lambeth is launching one of its largest housing refurbishment projects with a £16.6 million programme of improvements on the Ethelred Estate.
Labour Councillor John Kazantzis, Cabinet Member for Housing, said: "This is great news for the Ethelred Estate. It is one of the largest refurbishment projects the council has ever undertaken and part of our on-going commitment to improving the standard of our housing… We are already talking to residents, through the Ethelred TRA, about the refurbishment and they are playing a strong role in deciding the details of the work to be done”.
Lambeth Council successfully bid for £6.9m funding for the project from the London Regional Housing Pot. The council is providing £9.5m of the £16.6m funding with an additional £270,000 from energy agencies.
Work on the blocks is expected to begin in June 2008. Residents will not have to move out of their homes while the improvements are carried out. Instead the council will be providing respite properties", where tenants can go to cook and wash while new kitchens and bathrooms are installed in their homes.
