![]() Labour's getting tough on rogue traders who sell alcohol to children |
An off-licence has had its alcohol licence revoked
after it sold alcopops to a 12-year-old boy.
Gogis's Off-Licence in Wandsworth Road, SW8, sold alcohol to underage children
three times. The operations were part of an ongoing campaign by Labour to tackle
underage drinking and the problems that it causes.
Councillor Mark Bennett, Cabinet member for community safety, said:
"This case sends out the clear message that selling alcohol to children
will not be tolerated in Lambeth, and that businesses who are repeat offenders
risk losing their licence.
"Underage drinking has an impact on the community, not to mention the
dangers faced by the young people themselves. We will continue to take a tough
line on this, and we expect traders to behave responsibly when selling alcohol."
This case follows a similar case last month where the Lucky Food Store in Rosendale
Road, West Dulwich, also had its licence revoked for selling alcohol to children.
Anyone with information about a premises selling to children are asked to contact
their local Police beat officer, or contact Trading Standards on 020 7926 6109.
Lambeth businesses wanting information about the law can contact a trading standards
officer on the same number.
