A Lambeth's adventure playgrounds are set to benefit from a one
million pound cash boost following a government announcement in the borough.
The Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) has said that Lambeth
will benefit from the New Play Builder Funding, which will now be used by the
council to improve play facilities on estates in play areas and in the fifteen
adventure playgrounds located across the borough.
Lambeth, which currently has the largest number of adventure playgrounds in
London, launched its own play strategy last year, and has also received 840
thousand pounds from the Big Lottery fund to support play projects.
The council is also putting an extra £1.7 million in to young people's
services over the next three years, to add to the range of activities provided
by the council via youth centres, projects and through the council's summer
programme.
Councillor Florence Nosegbe, Labour Deputy Cabinet member for Youth said: "This
is great news for Lambeth's young people. Young people are consistently telling
us that they would like more things to do, so this money will be a great boost
to the play facilities we already provide.
