Lambeth Labour scraps clamping

Clamping has become a thing of the past on Lambeth's streets.

From now on, people who park illegally in Lambeth will no longer face their vehicle being clamped – except in extreme circumstances – after the Labour administration decided the penalty was too harsh and caused too much inconvenience to motorists.

The move marks a further stage in Labour’s bid to create a fairer parking policy, and follows on from scrapping targets for issuing parking tickets, a Lambeth Liberal Democrat policy which Labour reversed when they won control of the council in 2006. This change resulted in a 25% drop in resident appeals against unfair tickets.

Councillor Sally Prentice, Labour Cabinet for Environment, said: "We want a parking policy that is firm but fair. This is another step towards creating a more proportionate and balanced parking system and a step away from the unfair policies of the past."
