Val Shawcross joins councillors to demand night bus for Streatham Vale
Valerie Shawcross, London Assembly Member for Lambeth and Southwark was joined this morning at City Hall by Streatham South Labour councillors, Mark Bennett, Dave Malley and John Kazantzis to call on Mayor of London Ken Livingstone and Transport for London to send night bus services along Streatham Vale. Val presented a petition featuring around 200 signatures from Streatham residents who are concerned about the long home walk they face if travelling late at night. Accepting the petition from Cllr Bennett, Val said ‘I’m pleased to be working with the Streatham South team to call for late night transport for local residents.’ Streatham Vale is served by two bus routes during the day but neither of these is 24 hour. Val added ‘If you work shifts or get home late you can be faced with a very long walk. As a woman who frequently travels around London alone, I really would like to see this gap filled. ‘I will be awaiting the response from Ken and TfL with interest.’ Cllr. Mark Bennett said, ‘Dave, John and
I are pleased that Val has taken up our petition with the Mayor and TfL.
Residents in the Vale need better, safer transport links and a new night
bus would be a major benefit for all of Streatham’.
