When and why did you first become interested
in politics?
When I was studying at home in Sierra Leone I was an active member of
the Student Union and was also involved in politics at local and national level.
I was elected as President of my Student Union. I found the role challenging
and worked effortlessly to promote the well-being of students at the Institution.
When I came to the United Kingdom my passion for politics continued and I became
a member of the Labour Party. I still feel the passion and as a Labour Councillor
I will be in a position to assist in developing the social, educational and
other needs of the people of Lambeth.
What inspired you to become a councillor?
Have always been keen to assist those who are in need. During my student
days I assisted various individuals with different issues that they encountered.
It was always rewarding to see the outcome and the gratitude that was shown
by those who I helped. I want to continue to do this at a higher level and I
am certain that the residents of Lambeth will benefit from my hard work and
efforts.
Has it been worth it?
Yes of course, I have been able to help so many people in such a short
space of time and I still have another three and a half years left!
What’s your greatest fear and your greatest
hope?
My greatest fear is if I couldn’t fulfil my responsibilities to
my constituents and represent them well enough. My Greatest hope is world peace,
stability and harmony in the world.
What’s the first thing you would do
if you ruled the world for a day?
I would abolish poverty but it would have to be for more than a day
What single thing would most improve your
area?
Safety – Both cutting down crime and anti social behaviour but
also residents feeling safe and living in a clean environment
What’s your favourite film?
Casablanca – It’s a great story of hope over adversity
What does your council do particularly well?
Arranges lots of meetings!
What do you consider your greatest political
triumph?
Winning in Lambeth in 2006, we worked really hard to win back the borough
What is the biggest problem with local government
today?
Not enough contact with the people and not enough support for councillors!
We are only part time doing a full time job!
How would you solve it?
Improve support for community groups so that Councillors can be real
community councillors.
When and where are you most happy?
Meeting with my residents in Larkhall and helping them access services
and improve their lives
What’s your theme song, and why?
I will survive – Gloria Gaynor
What one book would you take with you to a
desert island?
Complete works of Shakespeare
