![]() Councillor Helen O'Malley |
When and why did you first become interested
in politics?
I’ve always been interested, especially from a historic point of view
but I was motivated to join when Margaret Thatcher was elected.
What inspired you to become a councillor?
An interest in my local area, its groups, the local community and local developments
Has it been worth it?
Pleasure and pain…
What’s the first thing you would do
if you ruled the world for a day?
Achieve a final recognition that genocide has characterised the modern world
by an international commemoration of the Holocaust, Hiroshima and Nagasaki on
the same day, celebrated by all nations, in recognition of the continuing outrages
against humanity still going on.
What single thing would most improve your
area?
Developing more integrated planning strategies and developments
What’s your favourite film?
I love cartoons and animation and I vacillate between Yellow Submarine, Gromit
and Shrek
What does your council do particularly well?
I am most proud of Lambeth for its role in supporting people, something I intend
to continue and strengthen now in power
What is your most embarrassing moment?
I’m still trying to forget it…
What is the biggest problem with local government
today?
Too much E-Gov which loses key issues and detail in over complex and inaccessible
systems which are never given enough time to bed down
How would you solve it?
More thorough, hands-on analysis and problem solving
Who is your political hero and why?
I’m not keen on political heroes…
When and where are you most happy?
Somewhere with music, people, sunshine and the countryside
What’s your theme song?
Beethoven’s ninth symphony
Which one book would you take to a desert
island?
Larouse Gastronomique
