Vassall Councillor - Alex McKenna

Councillor Alex McKenna
Councillor Donatus Anyanwu

When and why did you first become interested in politics?
At school.

What inspired you to become a councillor?
I was interested in politics, was very active with my Trade union and I enjoyed being active in my party and community. Becoming a councillor seemed like a natural progression.

Has it been worth it?
Yes. Both the good and the bad. It makes you a better person.

What’s your greatest fear and your greatest hope?
That as a councillor that I will not have achieved enough for the residents of Lambeth. I would like to change things for the better.

What’s the first thing you would do if you ruled the world for a day?
As I become older I am becoming more of an environmentalist. as we generally we are passing something on to generations to come and it would be nice we left this world in a better state then when we found it.

What single thing would most improve your area?
Housing getting everyone in decent housing would transform our area. It would have benefits in health, education and crime reduction. Good housing would take our area a quantum leap forward.

What fictional character do you identify with, and why?
Don Corlone. He combines a mixture of old world traditional values in the setting of a modern world.

What’s your favourite film?
Godfather.

What does your council do particularly well?
I think their attention in trying to involve residents is as good as anybody. Sometimes though it means things take longer than they should.

What do you consider your greatest political triumph?
To have won 3 elections in a ward I didn’t know much about before I first got elected. Through hard work and getting involved in my area I have got to know it very well.

What was your most embarrassing moment?
Maybe I am thick skinned, but I can’t think of any at the moment.

What is the biggest problem with local government today?
It’s too big, there is not enough money and it is over complicated

How would you solve it?
Make it smaller get more money and make it simpler to understand.

Who is your political hero, and why?
JFK. Grew up in that generation he was an inspirational figure.

When and where are you most happy?
On a night out with mates small crowd few drinks nice meal.
