![]() Councillor Sally Prentice |
Sally Prentice has represented Ferndale residents since May 2002. She is an experienced councillor, having represented Bishop’s Ward from 1993 to 1998. Sally is also Labour’s spokesperson on Education and Children’s Services. Sally enjoys working with community groups, and is helping the Stockwell Skateboard Park Users’ Group develop their plans for refurbishing the skateboard park. She has recently campaigned on CCTV charges on behalf of residents on the Robsart and Stockwell Park Estates (the Council forgot to levy the weekly charge and then deducted the annual payment in one lump sum from tenanats’ accounts without telling anyone!), has visited parents involved in Sure Start to discuss ideas for a new Children’s Centre at Stockwell Primary School and has helped residents in Solon Road with a planning issue. Sally has taken up many issues from local residents including problems with council tax payments, anti-social behaviour, overgrown trees in Ferndale Road, parking fines and road safety. She has recently taken up issues of concern to residents in Trinity Gardens and Brighton Terrace, including concerns over lighting and crime and the state of the roads. Sally and her fellow ward councillor, Paul McGlone, have worked with local residents, to lobby the Council to implement the long over due changes to the parking controls in the Tunstall and Nursery Road area.

As the Labour Group’s Spokesperson on Education and Children’s Services, Sally is responsible for leading Labour’s campaigning on schools, young people and childcare – issues of critical importance to Lambeth residents. Labour’s campaigning, supporting parents’ lobbying in Brixton and Herne Hill, has successfully influenced the Lib Dem Tory Administration to develop a new City Academy in Shakespeare Road. Now the challenge is to persuade the Administration to consider the Brixton Hill site as a serious option for a second City Academy for young people in Brixton.
Sally has lived in Lambeth for 15 years, having moved to London when she graduated. As well as being a Lambeth councillor, Sally is a public services manager, and currently runs BE (Business Education) London East, an organisation that brings together schools and businesses to prepare young people for the world of work, covering nine London boroughs. Prior to joining BE, Sally worked in urban regeneration for six years, for the New Deal for Communities programme in Shoreditch, and for Tower Hamlets Council, where she was involved in setting up New Deal for Young People. Sally is an active member of the Fabian Society and is a member of the Daycare Trust.
